On January 5, Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) launched a joint operation in Segambut to tear down illegal structures on public road reserves.
The operation also targeted business items left in public spaces, with DBKL seizing those that violated regulations, according to a Facebook post by DBKL.
10 premises with illegal extensions were demolished
As a result of the operation, DBKL demolished 10 premises with illegal extensions that blocked drains and public pathways. 2 other owners agreed to remove their extensions and clear any obstructions themselves.
They also seized business items placed in public spaces, with 7 cases handled on the spot under the Street, Drainage, and Building Act 1974. 1 compound notice was issued under the Licensing of Trades, Businesses, and Industries (WPKL) By-Laws 2016.
A house that was modified without following DBKL’s approved plans and built on a public road reserve was also taken down.
Debris from the demolitions was cleared, and the seized items were sent to the Jalan Lombong Seizure Depot in Taman Miharja Cheras for documentation.
“The public is encouraged to report complaints”
DBKL departments involved in the operation included the Enforcement Department, Mechanical and Electrical Engineering Department, Urban Transportation Department, Health and Environmental Department, and the Segambut Branch Office.
Supporting agencies included the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM), Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor, the Solid Waste Management and Public Cleansing Corporation, and Alam Flora.
DBKL will continue monitoring and taking action at identified hotspots.
