The Movement Control Order has affected many small business owners and also those who depended on daily wages. Our PM announced methods and subsidies to help these business owners in his stimulus package speech on the 27th of March. Unfortunately, there are certain groups of people who misused the MCO to further their illegal activities.

A 45-year-old woman from Langkawi was arrested for selling ketum water with curry puffs as a front. Sinar Harian reported that she was arrested around 3.50pm yesterday at her stall in Kampung Bendang Baru, Kuah.

Langkawi Chief Police, Superintendent Mohd Iqbal Ibrahim told that the suspect admitted to selling ketum water to increase her income during MCO.

“As a result of the investigation, police found 44 plastic packages containing ketum with an estimated 13.2 liters in its store.”

Mohd Iqbal said that the suspect has been remanded and will be investigated under Section 30 (3) of the Poisons Act 1952 which provides for a maximum fine of RM10,000 or imprisonment not exceeding four years or both upon conviction.

While we understand that finances have been tough throughout the MCO, let’s not resort to any illegal activities whatsoever!
