In the past few years that we’ve had Telegram, we know that many use it to disseminate pornographic materials.

On May 27 Minister of Communications Fahmi Fadzil said that they will be taking action against Telegram if they continue to ignore the ministry’s call to meet, discuss and look for a solution for complaints that are related to user security on the application.

Fahmi said that the complaints that they received on the platforms varied. They include issues of public safety, sales of prohibited substances, scammers, and dissemination of pornography. The Pantai Dalam MP also said that the meeting is very important so that they can find the best solution for the issues immediately, as reported by BERNAMA.

“We admit that we have a problem with Telegram. Despite being invited to meet up since January until today, they refused to cooperate.”

“I have asked the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to study the appropriate actions to be taken,” he added.

He mentioned that he is still waiting for MCMC’s recommendation.

Other than that, the minister also said that social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter and TikTok have collaborated well with the ministry, it’s just Telegram that has failed to do so.
