Movie theaters now have improved a lot since the past when there were only standard seats available. Now, moviegoers can have the luxury of choosing from several types of seats, 3D screens and much more.

CGV is one of Indonesia’s movie theater chains and they have a theater known as Velvet Class which offers beds in place of the normal chairs.

Velvet Class theaters have bed-like seats complete with pillows and blankets for the ultimate comfortable cinematic experience. However, for one town in Indonesia, this type of theater was deemed to be unacceptable and was ordered to close its doors.

The complaints made by the public to the authorities prompted deputy mayor Fitrianti Agustinda of Palembang to pay a visit to the theater.

After inspection, she was shocked and displeased with the seats. She stated “If it’s like this, those that don’t want to watch the movie can still use it for something else.” She also said that the seats could encourage adultery and sexual misconduct.

The theater manager tried to reason with her and explained that the seats were not just meant for couples but also families who wanted to watch movies comfortably.

Besides, there were security cameras on the premises to prevent any misconduct and they already gotten permission from the government for the luxury theaters.

Agustinda refused to accept the explanation and ordered them to change their seats if they wanted to resume operations.

Unfortunately for Palembang’s CGV, they have no choice but to comply even though other similar Velvet Class theaters in Indonesia are operating without any problems.

This is not the first time an Indonesia authority had made absurd requests that even frustrated the citizens themselves.
