It’s already heartbreaking enough to have your child unexpectedly pass away at such a young age, so we cannot imagine what it must feel like to not even know their cause of death!

Two years ago, Mohd Nazri Mohamad Yusof’s youngest son, Wan Naufal Afeef, was admitted to a private hospital in Shah Alam due to a fever. Just 6 days later on 15th July 2016, the boy died, with his cause of death listed as “unknown”.

A post-mortem showed that the cause of the boy’s death “could not be ascertained”.

This understandably upset and confused the boy’s family, as his father was quoted as saying by the Malay Mail Online that Wan Naufal had never had any health problems prior to his sudden death.

Mohd Nazri’s wife, Sharifah Nailil Muna Syed Mohamed Kamil, claimed that their son had passed away after he was given an intravenous antibiotic while admitted at the hospital.

Because no certain cause of death was determined, the boy’s father was not happy and wanted this issue to be resolved. However, since no parties helped address this, he failed to get his son’s death certificate from the National Registration Department (JPN).

He told reporters,

“In the two years since the death of Wan Naufal Afeef, I have lodged complaints, including sending letters to various agencies such as the Ministry of Health, the Enforcement Agencies Integrity Commission, the Police and the Malaysian Medical Council (MMC) to help me find the answer for the cause of my child’s death.”

“But until today all the parties are silent… the letters sent also did not get any response, hence I’m unable to get my youngest child’s death certificate from JPN.”

“There must be an explanation for everything that happens and for every death there must be a cause. Help us to unravel the cause of Wan Naufal Afeef’s death which until today makes us wonder.”

Mohd Nazri pleaded to relevant parties, including Minister of Health Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam to help find out their son’s cause of death.

The boy’s parents are also waiting for the MMC to conduct an inquiry on the matter on the 5th of April.

We can’t imagine what a tough couple of years it must have been for these parents. Let’s hope the relevant authorities hear them out and address the situation properly so that they can get their closure.
