A baby’s full-moon celebration (‘Man Yue’) is Chinese tradition to bless the baby, as well as celebrate the arrival of a brand new member of the family, which makes it even more tragic when this freak accident occurred.
In Beijing, China, a blissful celebration had turned into a disaster when a baby boy died because his grandfather fed him some alcohol during his full-moon party.
According to Sin Chew Daily, many friends and relatives came to this very party to celebrate with the baby’s family yesterday (12 July).Ā While the guests were eating and chatting away, they had gradually gotten quite drunk.
His paternal grandfather was carrying him around joyfully, showing him off to the relatives. Things took a weird turn when one of the relatives jokingly suggested the grandfather to feed the baby some alcohol.
“Grandpa can’t drink if the kid doesn’t drink.”
It took a sinister turn when the grandfather took this joke seriously and gave his 1-month-old grandson a sip of liquor to “save his face”.
His mother stormed into the room angrily and took him into her arms, and the boy was crying, and his mouth wreaked of alcohol.
After 30 minutes, the baby was breathless, and that’s when she knew things got serious. She rushed him to the hospital but unfortunately, the baby didn’t make it after several hours of emergency treatment.

The doctor said that the baby suffered from an alcohol allergy, and he also scolded the irresponsible grandfather.
“Babies can’t take alcohol! How could you take a precious life as a joke?!”
The mother slapped her father-in-law multiple times upon hearing the doctor’s words, although she knew that it couldn’t bring her baby back.
What’s more, heartbreaking is that the mother had been treated poorly by her in-laws because she experienced a hard time conceiving for the past three years. She thought the storm was finally over when she was blessed with a baby boy.
It was beyond heartbreaking that she still lost her baby no matter how hard she tried to protect him.
