Toll fares applied to everyone, regardless of your status and the car you drive. Sadly, some road users are still happily avoiding tolls to skip the fares, mostly by tailgating the front drivers and speeding off before the barrier comes down.

You can run, but you can’t hide forever. Just last night (January 9), Prolintas AKLEH took to their Twitter page and shared what happened to an A-class Mercedes Benz driver who has been avoiding paying toll fares – settling the accumulated payment on the spot, which was RM275.65.

Prolintas revealed that the driver managed to avoid paying toll fares 45 times at a Projek Lintasan Kota Holdings Sdn Bhd (Prolintas) expressway, and recently, she was stopped at the toll plaza.

The driver agreed to settle the outstanding amount before she was allowed to leave the toll plaza.

In its tweet, Prolintas reminded the public not to follow in the driver’s footsteps.

“This is not only trespassing but also a danger to other road users.”

“Settled the outstanding payment, and that was it?”

Despite paying the outstanding amount on the spot, many Malaysians made it clear that they were not happy that the irresponsible driver was not imposed with a harsher punishment. Some said that the outstanding amount should be doubled.

“45 times and endangering other road users, and just settled the outstanding payment? Do you think the driver learnt her lesson? These people will play the law and will repeat the act once again.”

“These drivers should’ve been punished with 3 times the outstanding amount.”

“That was it? Just settled the outstanding amount? I might as well skip toll fares and only pay when I’m caught. At least I get to pay and be on the camera.”

“Pay the outstanding amount and repeat the act. If you’re not caught, you don’t pay anything. If you’re caught, just pay. You lose nothing. Should’ve multiplied the outstanding amount.”

“RM40 was deducted from my SmartTAG due to an error at the toll plaza. This driver avoided 45 times an no penalty? What the hell?”

“I think I’m gonna do this immoral act. Worse comes to worst, I just have to settle the outstanding amount.”

If you think driving a luxury car grants you the “access” to skip toll fares, keep in mind that the toll plaza management always has their eyes on you. It’s not only selfish but also an act to put others’ lives in danger, and you don’t want to have that on your conscience.
