They say you can find love in unexpected places and this unlikely couple can attest to that, seeing as they met on a mobile app and are now husband and wife. Bambang Irawan alias Awan, 28, and Arzum Balli, 26, are from two different countries located over 13,000km away but they managed to find a soulmate in each other.

According to Sosok, Awan is from South Jakarta, Indonesia and Arzum is from Austria, and the couple met each other on Smule, a singing app. They met in 2016 and would often duet together in the app. As a result, they got to know each other well and became friends.

Their feelings for each other deepened and in 2017, Arzum said that she was in love with Awan. She was determined to fly to Indonesia to meet him face to face and told him so but Awan thought that she was only joking. True to her word, she did fly over to see Awan and during their first meeting, she confessed that she wanted to marry him.

Awan was shocked because no girl had ever liked him before but Arzum’s love and determination won him over. He realised that she was serious about him as she had flown over 13,000km just to see him and agreed to marry her. Just a year after that first meeting, Awan started to arrange for their wedding by preparing for the necessary documents, including going to the Austrian embassy to get permission.

However, Arzum surprised him by flying over to Jakarta for their wedding and they held a modest ceremony in Cilandak on August 18. Although Awan is working as a cleaner, Arzum says she doesn’t mind even though it’s a dirty job and loves him for who he is. She said that she was aware of this during their first meeting and when she visited Jakarta, she would always go to Awan’s workplace to look for him or give him food. Aww, so sweet!

After their marriage, Arzum will go back to Austria and Awan will move over to be with her later. First, he has to learn German and get an A1 certificate before he can go there to get a job as well. The couple confessed that people were talking about them but they did not care about idle gossip. At first, Awan’s father was against the marriage as well but seeing Arzum’s love for his son, he gave them his blessings.

Such a sweet love story! We wish them a long and happy marriage! Looks like I’ll have to turn to Smule instead of Tinder now!
