Despite a 26-year age gap, Muhammad Danial Ahmad Ali and his former Bahasa Malaysia teacher, Jamilah Mohd, fell in love and got married.
They met in 2016 when Jamilah was assigned to teach Bahasa Malaysia to Muhammad Danial, who was only in Form 3 of secondary school.
Although Muhammad Danial admired Jamilah’s personality, their relationship at the time was only that of a teacher and student. They both grew apart till Jamilah wished Danial for his birthday when he turned 17 years old and not long after the two became close.
However, their connection was not smooth as Jamilah (48) initially rejected his advances due to their teacher-student relationship but Danial (22) himself persisted till she ghosted his messages on WhatsApp.
Danial said that he went to her house to voice his seriousness on pursuing the relationship and Jamilah’s heart eventually softened to the idea.
“From the very beginning, I have been honest with my family and Alhamdulillah, both sides gave their blessing for our relationship with no objections” said Danial.
The couple eventually tied the knot on the 25th of November 2021.
Muhammad Danial believes that age is just a number and is grateful for his partnership with Jamilah. Meanwhile, Jamilah focused on work after separating from her ex-husband in 2007 and said that she did not even think to start dating again.
“However, I can’t help it because God has appointed him as my soulmate” said Jamilah.
“My husband came with confidence and he was serious and didn’t even keep our relationship with his family a secret, so that’s one of the reasons I accepted his proposal,” she said.
News of marriages with big age gaps are more common than we think here in Malaysia. Although schoolmates of Danial were shocked at the news, the couple remains to be happily married together.
