If you find yourself in these areas in the Klang Valley or Genting Highlands, don’t forget to pay these cafes a visit to up both your brunch and IG game.

1. Peekaboo Cafe

Taking their inspiration from the famous Japanese cartoon, My Neighbour Totoro, Peekaboo Cafe captures the whole visual of the cartoon and translates it into the decor of their cafe. This cafe is perfect for those looking for a laidback and cosy time with their loved ones. There’s plenty of Totoro plushies too for some warm cuddles!

This Asian fusion cafe serves everything from good coffee to a variety of food that is just within RM25, which is perfect if you’re not game on blowing your budget on brunch.

Address: 1-3-M (Upstairs), Jalan Jalil Perkasa 13, Arked Esplanad Bukit Jalil.
Opening hours: 11am – 9pm (Tuesday – Thursday) / 11am – 11pm (Friday – Saturday) / 9am – 8.30pm (Sunday)

2. Ahoy Cafe

This cafe exactly what you think it is!

Ahoy Cafe is inspired by sailors and pirates, hence their motto: “Work Like a Captain, Play Like a Pirate”. In case you didn’t know, ahoy is lingo commonly used by pirates and sailors when they wish to gain attention or say hello when boarding a ship.

The cafe’s rustic ambience will make one feel like they are having a meal near a ship’s docks, and it seems like they’ve even got sailor caps for the perfect photo op! Since this cafe is inspired by people on the sea, obviously their menu has a lot of seafood options such as Caffeinated Smoked Duck. Wow, great for those who love their caffeine and duck meat!

A meat lover instead of a seafood fan? Not to worry because they have other meat options on the menu as well. If you’ve got a sweet tooth, don’t forget to try their array of crepes and cakes.

Address: 74, Jalan SS15/4, Subang Jaya
Opening hours: 2pm – 12pm

3. DC Comics Super Heroes Cafe

Comic geeks, this one will get you excited!

This cafe is every DC comics geek’s dream come true because patrons are given the chance to dine here like a superhero. Time to channel your inner Superman!

It has everything from Superheroes-inspired food to comics and cool merchandise; it’s almost like walking into a real DC universe. If you’re an ardent DC fan, then you should probably make this cafe your next hangout spot.

When you walk into the cafe, you will feel like you’ve set foot in the middle earth. The calm and cosy atmosphere of the cafe is great for a chilled-out coffee sesh with your loved ones. If you get hungry, you’ll be pleased to know that there is a wide variety of LOTR-inspired meals on the menu.

Want to get a taste of the Shire? Head here:

Address: 9-1, Jalan Radin Bagus 6, Bandar Baru Seri Petaling.
Opening hours: 11am – 12am

5. Taste of Kota Bharu (TOKB) Cafe

This cafe is more unique since its theme is much closer to the history of our motherland.

TOKB Cafe pays tribute to the World War II by incorporating its elements into their interior while bringing you the flavours of Kelantan in their food. What does Kelantan have to do with WWII, you ask?

Well, the Japanese first landed in Tanah Malaya during the WWII in Kelantan. That’s Sejarah 101.

The great thing about this military-themed place is that it’s also really huge, making it perfect for hosting any event like birthday parties, mini-concerts, product launches, product talks and more. Not forgetting, you can take a lot of cool pictures of their huge decor items like model aeroplanes and an aerial dogfight for the ‘gram.

Address: No. 3A, Avenuue D’Vogue (Menara Inspiration), Jalan 13/2, Seksyen 13, 46100, Petaling Jaya
Opening hours: 12pm – 9pm (closed on Tuesdays)

6. Otherwise Cafe

Spooky or romantic? Visit this cafe and decide!

This cafe is dedicated to those who take joy in all things vintage and mysterious. With faceless mannequins in wedding dresses, vintage furniture, black and white portraits and skull decor all around this space, it will definitely send some chills down your spine.

We suggest calming your nerves with a warm cup of coffee once you’re there. While coffee, cakes and beer are on the menu, we reckon the cafe’s distinctive aesthetic is what will draw visitors here.

Address: 6, Jalan SS4D/14, Kelana Jaya, Petaling Jaya, Selangor
Opening hours: 5pm – 10pm (Monday, Wednesday & Thursday) / 5pm – 11pm (Friday) / 10am – 11pm (Saturday & Sunday)

So, there you have it! Six Insta-worthy and cool themed cafes you should bookmark for weekends where you’re hungry for brunch and beyond. Let us know in the comments if you find any other interesting cafes worth a mention!

Have fun, guys!
