Sometimes, loneliness may overwhelm a person and cause them to do things to seek attention.
According to the Mainichi, a 51-year-old woman in the Chiba prefecture had made 2,761 emergency calls in the span of 2 years and 9 months as she was lonely.
Hiroko Hatagami, an unemployed person in the city of Matsudo, located in the Chiba prefecture was arrested on 13 July over “suspicion of obstructing the operations of a local fire department“.
It is said that Hiroko would make fake emergency calls to the Matsudo Fire Department using her house phone, cell phone and other means from her home and in the neighbourhood.
When the call connects, she will start complaining and listing out a number of ailments such as her legs hurting, her stomach being in pain or that she took a large dose of medicine which is all apparently untrue.
She would then ask for an ambulance to be dispatched and when the vehicle reaches, she would refuse to go in or say that she was not the one who called it over.
Both the fire department and police have asked her to stop making these calls as they are obstructive in nature but she continued on. Fed up with her behaviour, the fire department filed a damage report with the police against her on 20 June.
During the investigations, the suspect had reportedly admitted to her wrongdoings by saying:
“I was lonely and wanted someone to listen to me and give me attention.”
This is certainly a very sad story, we hope that anyone who is feeling lonely will reach out to those around them or join some clubs or communities where they can interact with others.
