5 men, including an Indonesian national, were arrested to assist in investigations into an incident where a bipolar patient was beaten up in a public space at the Kompleks Hentian Kajang, early last month.

According to a press statement by the Kajang District Police, Assistant Commissioner Naazron Abdul Yusof explained that his department had detected a 51-second video that had gone viral since yesterday (2 October), which showcases the man with bipolar disorder getting beaten up by 2 men.

The man was accused of harassing a woman

“The police conducted an investigation and found that the incident occurred on 10 September, after which the 31-year-old victim was sent to the Kajang Hospital for treatment due to injuries to his face and mouth. The victim was also admitted to the Psychiatric Ward for 20 days because he is a bipolar disorder patient,” he said.

Investigations also found that the incident was caused by the victim’s actions, as he had previously been accused of harassing a woman at a surau and at a restaurant in the same area.

“We are still conducting further investigations into the alleged harassment by the suspect and the actual cause of the incident,” he added.

The video of this incident has been circulating on social media since yesterday, as it showcased a group of 5 men surrounding a shirtless man who was sitting at a restaurant table. 2 of the 5 men then started beating the victim until he fell to the ground.

One of the men then kicked the victim while he was on the ground, and continued to beat him as he got up and moved away.
