A 38-year-old fortune teller in Pattaya, Thailand, was arrested after he told a customer that she had bad luck and would lose a valuable possession, only to steal her phone.

According to a report by DailyNews Online, the fortune teller was seated on the sidewalk opposite a temple in Pattaya when he called out to a woman, offering her his services as a way to welcome the New Year.

The woman agreed, and during her reading, he informed her that he predicted bad luck in the form of her losing a valuable possession. He then offered to perform a ritual for an additional fee to ward off the bad luck. However, the customer refused.

As she was about to leave, she noticed her phone, an iPhone 13 Pro worth THB20,000 (~RM2,580), had gone missing and approached police officers and passersby to help search for it.

They then found the phone hidden inside the fortune teller’s bag.

When confronted with the evidence, the fortune teller admitted to taking the phone, claiming it was his first time stealing as he needed the money for the New Year.

Charges were pressed

Following his arrest, the fortune teller apologised and pleaded with the customer to drop the charges against him, but she insisted on proceeding with the case to prevent him from targeting others in the future.
