A man in Kuching, Sarawak, recently went viral for brandishing a gun while driving near Wisma Saberkas.
In the video that is circulating on Reddit and Facebook, the man had his right hand out the window while holding on to a gun as his left hand was on the steering wheel. At one point, the man also pulled on the charging handle as if about to pull the trigger.
The man was driving a grey Proton Persona, and according to the description, he also had a tattoo sleeve on his right arm.
The suspect has been arrested
In an official statement by PDRM in Kuching today (June 20), the police revealed that the suspect who brandished the pistol has been arrested at his house. The suspect is only 22 years old.
Kuching Police Chief, Alexson Naga Chabu confirmed that the brandished pistol was a fake weapon.
Preliminary investigation also revealed that the suspect has 2 criminal records and tested positive for drugs. The police will remand the suspect for 3 days until June 23 for further investigations under Section 36(1) Weapons Act 1960. If found guilty, the suspect will be jailed for not more than one year or fined not more than RM5,000, or both.
He is also being investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation and is facing a possible jail term of 7 years as well as a fine.
Alexson also urged the public with relevant information to come forward and aid in the investigation.
