As children and teenagers, we may think that our parents’ efforts are small or not valuable. But, it’s never too late to realise otherwise while they’re still alive.

One Malaysian girl recently recognised her parents’ efforts after, prior to this, thinking that they didn’t care for her as well as enduring an overdose, and is on her way towards making amends with them.

Taking to the SecretsMY Twitter page, the 18-year-old SPM student shared her heartbreaking and touching thoughts, and determination towards redeeming herself to her parents.

She wrote, “Hi, I’m 18-years-old and am taking the SPM examinations this February.”

“In the last 2 years, I had been warded because of an overdose. My dad was really sad about that, while I thought that my family didn’t care about me but I was totally wrong.”

The girl went on to share the many things her parents did purely out of their love and care for her.

“I moved schools when I was 17-years-old because my old school gave me a lot of pressure (I was a boarding school student before this). Abah (her father) was really concerned for my condition until he was willing to go back and forth from Negeri Sembilan to Kuala Lumpur just to settle the process of my school transfer.”

“There was one time when it was raining heavily and Abah had to stop somewhere because at that time, he was riding a motorcycle. When my school transfer was complete, I had moved to a school that’s very far from home so I had to live at a relative’s house. But, my dad still managed to visit me once in a while.”

And then, her 18th birthday rolled around.

“Recently, I celebrated my 18th birthday and I was insanely shocked because my parents made a surprise delivery. The next day, my mum and dad came to KL to celebrate my birthday and my mum made my favourite nasi lemak. Abah even took leave on that day,” she explained.

In the end, she realised that she was mistaken to think that her parents didn’t care for her.

“I was so wrong to think that they don’t love me. Even if in other people’s eyes (what they’re doing) is just small things, but to me it’s a thousand times better. For your information, my mum and dad have never failed to surprise me when it comes to my birthday,” she added.

She then went on to promise her parents that she’ll do them proud for her SPM examination.

“To my dad and mum, I promise that I’ll do my best for my upcoming SPM exams and I will bring them on stage (for her graduation), and I promise to return the love and effort to you until my last breath. Maybe I don’t say this much, but, I really love you guys,” she shared.

We’re not crying, you’re crying! Okay fine, we’re crying too.

We genuinely wish her all the best in her life and in her efforts towards making her parents proud!
