A 17-year-old student tragically passed away after getting into an accident when he was racing on his motorcycle in Penang.

The Southwest District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Sazalee Adam, said the 17-year-old victim was confirmed dead at the scene due to severe injuries.

He said the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division (BSPT) of the Southwest District Police Headquarters (IPD) received a call from the public around 4:30 AM, reporting a fatal accident involving a motorcycle ridden by a man.

“Initial investigations at the scene revealed that the accident occurred while the victim was riding the motorcycle with his friends from the direction of George Town heading towards Batu Maung.

“Upon reaching the front of the Keysight factory, the victim was involved in an accident and was confirmed dead at the scene,” Sazalee said, reported Malaysia Gazette.

Sazalee said, however, the number of vehicles involved and the actual cause of the accident have yet to be determined, and further investigations are still ongoing, while the victim’s body has been sent to the Forensic Unit of Balik Pulau Hospital for an autopsy.
