In an official statement by the police in Lahad Datu, the matter happened on June 10 (Tuesday) around 8 AM when the victim woke up, noticing the elderly lying on top of her suspiciously. When the man realised that she had woken up, he ran away.

The victim’s aunt then lodged a police report about the matter, and it didn’t take long for authorities to locate and apprehend the foreign senior citizen, who carried no valid identification or documents with him.

Police also suspected that the 62-year-old man had sexually assaulted the minor, who was sent to the hospital for a check-up.

At the time being, the matter is being investigated under Section 14(a) Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017.

If found guilty, the suspect will face a jail term of not more than 20 years.
