A 21-year-old man in Melaka was brought to the court yesterday (June 6) to face charges of sexually assaulting a 9-year-old girl, who is also the sister of his friend. The man pleaded NOT guilty to all charges.

Ahmad Dzul Fiqar Ahmad Fardzi was alleged to have touched the minor in her private part and kissed her lips, as well as trying to have sex with her.

He is said to have committed the acts at a flat in Ayer Keroh, Melaka, between 10 PM to 1 AM on May 31, 2025.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Wardah Ishhar proposed bail of RM20,000 for each charge, in addition to requesting additional conditions that the accused report to the nearest police station every month and not disturb the victim until the case is resolved.

Lawyer Amritpal Singh, who represented the accused, however, appealed for a lower bail amount on the grounds that his client only works as a restaurant assistant and his family is doing well financially.

Judge Haderiah then allowed the accused to be granted bail of RM25,000 for all charges and allowed additional conditions requested by the prosecution. The court set July 8 as the date for mentioning the case again and submitting documents, reported the Malaysia Gazette.

For the offences, Ahmad faces up to 40 years in prison and can be whipped if convicted under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, and  Section 377C of the same Act.
