A house in Ulu Tiram, Johor caught fire, killing almost everyone in the house.
In an official statement by the Johor State Firefighter and Rescue Department, the firefighters managed to rescue a 13-year-old boy who was hiding in the living room during the fire. He was the sole survivor in the tragic incident that robbed him of 3 other family members in the house.
The deceased includes an 11-year-old girl, who was found dead in the bedroom. A 30-year-old man, the father of the deceased girl was found dead in the bathroom.
Additionally, the fire also took the life of a 63-year-old woman, the mother of the deceased man, and the grandmother of the teenagers.
The sole survivor suffered burns on his face and hands, and he was brought to Hospital Sultan Ismail for treatment. The deceased suffered severe burns throughout their bodies.
The statement also revealed that the fire department received the call at 2:46 AM and reached the scene in less than 15 minutes. The firefighters took over two hours to put out the fire before the operation ended at 5:10 AM this morning (January 17).
In another report by China Press, the fire spread quickly and burned 80% of the area of the house. The firefighters found the 13-year-old boy hiding in the living room, so they quickly broke into the house to rescue him.
The cause of the fire, however, was not disclosed.
