A young Malaysian boy may have to give up his promising sporting career at a young age, due to injuries allegedly caused by his school teacher.
Netizen, Syahmina Mohd Azim, took to her Facebook page to share how her 11-year-old son will have to let go of his budding swimming career before it can even take off after his school teacher had allegedly beaten him and caused injuries that prevent him from competing in swimming tournaments.
She wrote, “Today (January 22), my 11-year-old child was forced to let go of his dreams and hopes for SUKMA and the SEA Games, in the aquatic swimming events.”
“My child, who represented Kerian, was the only one who surpassed the national qualifying time and has a Malaysian ID in the aquatic swimming events. He shed tears of disappointment after half a year of intensive, ‘high impact’ training and having successfully qualified to achieve the time set by his coach.”
She went on to say that her son had to give up his budding swimming career due to loss of balance, nose bleeds, headaches and ringing ears when he swam.
“The coaches were very disappointed that this incident happened, they had given everything to champion a win. Early and thorough preparations were done for the tournament day, for the sake of a badge for Malaysia. And it’s all ruined now,” she added.
The teacher allegedly slapped and punched the child
The frustrated mother explained that her son’s symptoms were allegedly caused by an apparent beating he received from his school teacher.
She has since also made a police report regarding this matter.
“The incident happened on December 10, 2024, when he was injured by a teacher at his school. A police report has been made. Let the police investigate,” she said.
In the police report, she stated that the teacher had apparently slapped and punched her son after the boy had accidentally touched the teacher’s back while standing behind the teacher.
The boy suffered multiple injuries
Syahmina recounted how her son had not stopped vomiting and having headaches and nose bleeds following the alleged beating incident. Due to this, she took her son to seek medical attention from a specialist doctor.
“The nose bleeding was caused by a blood clot around his ear, under the skin. The headaches, vomiting and fever were due to nerve swelling and also injuries to his soft tissues. He has multiple soft tissue injuries,” she shared, adding that his right jaw is also swollen, which caused difficulty and pain when chewing food.
The overall cost of his medical expenses, as well as swim training and coaching, has reached thousands of Ringgit.
“The impact of the slap and punch made a tremor in the semicircular canal of the ear (a cochlear concussion), which shows the same symptoms as a concussion,”
“It can heal but it may take a long time, or it most likely won’t heal at all.”
She went on to share her heartbreak over this incident.
“Ya Allah, my heart is breaking. I can’t stop my tears anymore. I’m crying while thinking about my own child’s future. For a swimmer, (the ears) are one of the most sensitive parts of the body. On a bad day, he could blackout in the water and die. May my son get the justice he deserves,” she added.
We genuinely hope that the boy recovers from his injuries.
