BREAKING: 1 Dead, 9 Injured in Explosion at KL Private University During Maintenance at Cafeteria

An individual was killed, while 9 others at a private university in Bukit Damansara, Kuala Lumpur, were rushed to the hospital following an explosion at the institute this morning (12 January).

Kuala Lumpur Police Chief Datuk Fadil Marsus, during a press conference today, stated that the explosion took place at 11:40 AM.  Among the victims were four students, two external contractor workers who were carrying out maintenance work, an administrative staff member, and two foreign nationals working at the cafeteria.

The incident took place in the air conditioning system maintenance area on the fourth floor, when the air conditioner compressor 

China Press quoted Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department Chief Rahmat as saying that the incident has resulted in one death and nine injuries.

Meanwhile, Berita Harian and Sinar Harian reported that initial investigations found that two individuals were at the location to carry out repair and maintenance work when the explosion occurred.

“As a result of the explosion, some victims suffered burns and were struck by debris, including collapsed concrete walls in the area involved,” Fadil stated.

 

The cause of the explosion is still under investigation

The Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) had conducted checks around the area and confirmed that it was safe.

At the time of writing, no criminal elements were found by the authorities.
