Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Seri Faizal Azumu via his Twitter page last night (17th September 2021) announced that gym reopening will commence for states in the country under Phase 2 and above of the National Recovery Plan (NRP) with strict SOPs.

The announcement in which he wrote, “Please follow the SOPs, especially ventilation guidelines. Enjoy healthy living!” came after a bout of confusion which led to the issuance of a public apology from the minister.

The tweet also outlined SOPs as approved by the National Security Council (NSC) states that indoor sports facilities are only open to those who are fully vaccinated.

Other provisions include gazetted opening hours (6am to 10pm) and capacity restriction up to only 50%.

Faizal also took to Facebook sharing documents relating to ventilation for gymnasium during the National Recovery Plan.

Let’s hope that the SOPs in place will keep gym owners and gym goers safe during NRP.
