Sexual harassment is not just limited to physical touch. If your inappropriate conversation makes the other party uncomfortable and fearing for their safety, it’s also considered verbal sexual harassment.

Just recently, an Indonesian who works in Malaysia, Carmen had the longest 20-minute ride with her e-hailing driver, where she felt uncomfortable throughout the entire journey.

“I studied psychology, so I know you by looking at you”

What was supposed to be a quick journey became one of the most horrible experiences that Carmen had to remember. Speaking to WORLD OF BUZZ, Carmen said that her e-hailing driver picked her up at her residence in Bangsar, and constantly spoke to her about inappropriate stuff.

The driver claimed to have studied psychology in the past, which “grants” him the ability to know people by just looking at them.

After asking about her birthday, the conversation escalated immediately when the man started asking about Carmen’s sexual preferences.

“You’re naughty and you love having sex with your partner right? Me too”, the driver said.

Looking at Carmen’s profile picture on the e-hailing application, the driver also had a lot to ask about it.

“Are you wearing a bikini in the picture? Or are you not wearing any pants?”

The driver continued to tell Carmen about what he thought of her as if they have known each other for a long time.

“I know what kind of person are you, I saw that from the way you boarded my car. Do you gym and squat a lot? I like looking at you.”

Carmen also told WORLD OF BUZZ that the driver continued talking to her despite being ignored.

“I was so scared for 20 minutes”, she said.

When asked about her further actions, Carmen said that she had lodged a complaint at the customer service of the e-hailing company, who responded to her the very next day. Carmen also decided not to involve the police at the time being.

“They apologised to me and said that serious actions will be taken on the driver.”

Fellow ladies, don’t hesitate to file a report to customer service or the authorities if you ever feel unsafe during your ride. Have you ever encountered a similar experience during your e-hailing ride?
