The recent coronation of King Charles III was a grand affair, attended by dignitaries and royals from around the world. Among them were the king and queen of Malaysia, the Yang di-Pertuan Agong (YDPA) Al-Sultan Abdullah and Raja Permaisuri Agong (RPA) Tunku Azizah.

This ceremony is the first time for any member of the Malaysian Royal family to attend a British Monarch’s coronation. On May 6th, their Majesties showed up to King Charles’s coronation at Westminster Abbey where the YDPA wore the No. 1 military ceremonial uniform, while Tunku Azizah was dressed in a bright yellow modern baju kurung.

During the Majesties entrance at the grand church, a short video captured them politely avoiding a plaque of remembrance on Westminster Abbey’s floors as they walk in to find their seats.

There are a number of plaque of remembrances placed to honour fallen soldiers or passed British leaders and monarchs at Westminster Abbey. It is unsure which specific plaque of remembrance their Majesties avoided but the posted footage on both TikTok and Instagram has since been flooded by praises from proud Malaysians.

In the 21 second video, their Majesties were seen walking in a single file line towards the Coronation Chair, which is situated in the heart of Westminster Abbey. As they continue to walk, Tunku Azizah is seen to point to the bronze plaque embedded on the abbey’s floors and the Royal couple then redirects their path to avoid stepping on it.

The polite gesture was also done by the Thai King and Queen as well who walked behind the YDPA and RPA. It seems these two South East Asian Royals were the only two who avoided stepping on the plaque.

Netizens praised the Malaysian Royals for their respectful gesture, with many comments saying that the Thai Royals followed their courteousness.

Their Majesties display of respect and appreciation for the British soldiers and leaders was a nice insight on how polite the monarchs are. What do you think of the video? Share your thoughts in the comments!
