When Defence Minister, Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri announced on Tuesday (2 February) that the Movement Control Order will be extended, he also mentioned that certain SOPs will be tightened due to the fluctuating number of Covid-19 cases.

However, in his latest press conference, the minister added that starting from today (5 February), barber’s shop, car wash and pasar malam will be allowed to operate. After a quick perusal through the full list of SOPs, netizens on Twitter pointed out that besides all restaurants, food stalls, food trucks, roadside stalls and kiosks allowed to re-open, restaurants in pubs and nightclubs are also allowed to re-open.

Nightclub

The selling of food in these establishments are only allowed for take-away, drive-thru and delivery purposes only from 6am to 10pm. Netizens were quick to ridicule this SOP as they wondered what exactly can be tapau-ed from pubs and nightclubs.

“Might as well not open, who actually tabao from pubs and night clubs ah?”

“First in the world! Malaysia Truly Boleh! You visit nightclub, whip out your spanky handphone. Record the music. Ahhh, remember bring your Tupperware to tapau your beer, liquor, etc. P A R T Y when you get home.”

While the SOP mentions that food can be ordered for delivery and takeaway, there was no mention of whether drinks can be ordered from these establishments.

“Is this a troll account? I’ve never been to clubs and asked for a Gin Martini, stir, don’t shake and no ice. Take away ya!”
