Taking to X, netizens have strongly criticised Manchester United’s 22-year-old winger, Amad Diallo, for flipping off fans during the club’s post-season Asia tour stop in Kuala Lumpur.

A video that quickly went viral on social media captured the Ivorian player making the offensive gesture after United’s loss to the ASEAN All-Stars. The clip drew widespread attention from both fans and non-fans, sparking outrage over his conduct.

In response to the backlash, Diallo issued a statement claiming he generally respects people except those who insult his mother.

“I have respect for people but not for the one who insults my mom,” he said. “I shouldn’t have reacted like that, but I don’t regret what I did. We had a great time in Malaysia with good people.”

However, many Malaysian fans were not convinced by his explanation.

“The club is not doing well and this particular player is a liar. Since when did we disrespect your mother, when we don’t even know her?”

One user commented, “You came down from the bus and immediately flipped the bird.”

Other netizens echoed similar sentiments:

“Is this how you appreciate your fans who support you? What a fool. No wonder the club hasn’t progressed in the past five years.”

“Pity for Malaysians. Amad Diallo falsely claimed that Malaysian fans insulted his mother—a poor excuse to justify his low-class mentality and disgraceful attitude. Shame on you,” said one user.

Despite Diallo’s attempt to clarify his actions, the incident has left a sour taste among many supporters, especially those who were present at the match.
