Although it is not fully completed yet, the Merdeka 118 tower which is on track to becoming the second tallest building in the world, has been constantly in the news these past few weeks after several groups had climbed to the top of it and documented their experiences.

Despite the backlash these groups have received for illegally trespassing, it appears that there is no shortage of people willing to take risks just to explore the tower.

Recently, a Chinese tourist was condemned after he had flown a drone to take pictures and videos of the tower, only to have it crash into the building and plunge all the way down.

In a video uploaded to the Chinese social media platform Bilibili, the man told his viewers that he would be flying a drone to show them how tall Merdeka 118 was.

When he received the area, the tourist asked a foreign worker whether he was allowed to fly his drone near the building. The worker then directed him to a pathway behind him.

After picking his spot at an elevated platform, the tourist then sets up his drone and takes it to the skies for an aerial shot of Merdeka 118.

In the beginning, everything seemed to be going well as the drone managed to capture the majestic view of the tower and of the Kuala Lumpur skyline.

However, it soon lost connection and began flying to towards the building, causing the man to panic and say “It’s over, it’s over” repeatedly. The drone then collided with the building and plunged all the way down.

The man sounded like he was panicking as he ran around the building in order to retrieve his drone. The video then ended with the tourist running around in panic as he searched frantically for his drone.

Calls for punishment

On the subreddit r/Malaysia, Malaysians condemned the tourist and called for him to be jailed for violating the country’s drone laws.

“Fallen objects from that height is no joke, someone could very easily die. F*cker thinks it’s a funny video, wait till someone rats him out to the authorities.”

“This is way beyond the allowed height (400ft) to operate a drone. This is very much a breach of law,” commented a user.

Another user said, “Irresponsible drone pilot. Should not be flying at that height over public places (with people underneath).”

We hope that the authorities get to the bottom of the matter.
