A crocodile became an unexpected star yesterday (February 20) when it suddenly appeared in the Klang River near Mid Valley in Kuala Lumpur, just below the bridge that connects The Gardens Mall to KL Eco City & LRT Abdullah Hukum.

Crowds were seen gathering on the bridge and at the roadside to catch a glimpse of the reptile. PDRM officers and authorities from the Malaysia Civil Defense Force (APM) were also called to the scene. A cage was deployed and placed into the river, in hopes that the reptile would make its way in.

As of today (February 21, Friday), the crocodile has yet to be caught

In an official statement by APM today, the report about the sighting of the reptile was received yesterday at around 1:13 PM. APM has also confirmed the reptile to be a saltwater crocodile (buaya tembaga), measuring 3 to 4 meters long.

The Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL), the Fire and Rescue Department (JPBM), and the Department of Wildlife and National Parks Peninsular Malaysia (PERHILITAN) are also involved in the mission.

With the crocodile still on the loose, does that mean it will reappear anytime soon?

APM did not mention if they expect the reptile to appear again anytime soon but took the opportunity to warn others in the area NOT to conduct any activities at the river.

“The public is advised not to carry out any activities at the Klang River until the crocodile is captured.”

To those in the area, did you catch a glimpse of the unexpected visitor yesterday? The trap has been set, so let’s hope the reptile will be caught soon.
