Vietnam Crowned Asia’s Leading Destination & World’s Leading Heritage Destination Ahead of M’sia

Vietnam bagged several prestigious awards at the 30th Annual  World Travel Awards recently, most notably being crowned as the World’s Leading Heritage Destination 2023!

Beating 6 other nations to the coveted title, including Armenia, Brazil, Egypt, Greece, Japan and Saudi Arabia, this was actually Vietnam’s second consecutive year winning the award at the World Travel Awards.

Besides that, for the 30th World Travel Awards, the country also won Asia’s Leading Nature Destination 2023, Asia’s Leading Tourist Board 2023 and Asia’s Leading Destination 2023.

 

Vietnam beats Malaysia in two of the categories

For Malaysians, it is worth noting that for Asia’s Leading Tourist Board 2023 and Asia’s Leading Destination 2023 categories, Vietnam won the awards ahead of our country, as Malaysia was also nominated for both awards.

 


For the Asia’s Leading Tourist Board 2023 category, Tourism Malaysia was nominated alongside Brunei, Hong Kong, India, Japan, Korea, China, Indonesia, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Singapore and eventual winner Vietnam.

Meanwhile, for Asia’s Leading Destination 2023 award, Malaysia was nominated alongside China, India, Indonesia, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand and of course, the eventual winner, Vietnam.

How did Malaysia fare at the 30th World Travel Awards?

For the 30th World Travel Awards, Malaysia was nominated for 11 awards but failed to win any of them. The nominations are for these categories:

Malaysia won the Asia’s Leading Destination Award in 2015

Furthermore, Malaysia has failed to win any awards at the World Travel Awards for 7 years now, with the last achievement being in 2016 when our country won the Asia’s Leading Destination 2016 and Asia’s Leading Tourist Board 2016.

Established in 1993 to acknowledge, reward and celebrate excellence across all key sectors of the travel, tourism and hospitality industries, the World Travel Awards is recognised globally s the “ultimate hallmark of industry excellence”.

Each year, the World Travel Awards will cover the globe with its Grand Tour, a series of regional gala ceremonies to recognise excellence within each continent. Each winner of these galas will then go head-to-head in a Grand Final at the end of the year.
