“Haram content just to gain views” – ‘Unboxing by Husband’ Trend Among Newlyweds Faces Backlash

The rise of social media platforms have led to people doing weird and disgusting types of trendy ‘content’ just to gain views.

Recently, a new viral trend has emerged on TikTok, which involves Muslim newlyweds in their wedding outfits on wedding night, standing in front of the mirror. The groom would then “remove” the bride’s head accessories, whilst the bride records the act.

It is presumed that those who take part in the trend, do so to commemorate the happy occasion whilst also announcing to viewers that they are legally husband and wife.

The TikTok trend is known as “Unboxing By Husband” and has infuriated a lot of people, including religious authorities and influencers on the grounds that it was against Islamic principles.

Religious departments advise Muslims to stay away from the trend

The trend which has been circulating all over social media in the past few days has managed to capture the attention of Islamic religious departments.

The Perak Islamic Religious Department advised Muslims to stay away from the trend and said that it was compulsory for husbands to protect their wives’ honour.

“The act of ‘unboxing’ is not part of Islamic teaching because it is the beginning of sin and invites slander.”

Muslim preacher criticises the trend

It has even led to outspoken Muslim preacher PU Syed to publicly criticise the trend. He shared his thoughts on an Instagram post, where he says, “The ‘Unboxing Wife’, or ‘Unboxing By Husband’ trend is another heresy that is going viral and has been done by many young couples on social media!”

“Exposing your aurat is haram (forbidden), let alone exposing your wife’s aurat! And you’re still proud of sharing ‘haram’ content just to gain a lot of views!”

In an interview with mStar, PU Syed also told the public to not take part in such nonsense because it doesn’t bring any benefits.

“Our wife is our property. We can’t just simply share her beauty and her sweetness for others to see. It all belongs to us as a husband. As youngsters, we have the nature to try something, but we must also obey God’s command and never do such a thing. Avoid doing nonsense stuff, because it doesn’t bring benefits but mere slander,”  he said.
