Here’s what he said.

“This man is my brother-in-law. His name is Sukri Ramli and he works part-time as an Uber driver.”

“On June 6, he was hired by a customer who is a Vietnamese lady and the pick-up point was in Paya Terubong, Penang. He completed the trip without a hitch.”

“The next day, Sukri received a call from the same Vietnamese lady. So he went to pick her up at the same place again. Nothing was out of place since she was his customer.”

“Suddenly, his car was stopped by a group of men with two of them armed with baseball bats. Sukri was dumbfounded.”

“Before he even had the chance to ask the men what was up, they assaulted him and trashed his car.”

“The angry mob then told him that he had sexually harassed the Vietnamese lady yesterday. And the lady claimed to have video as evidence. But when asked to show the video, the lady said she didn’t have it.”

Here’s the video of the driver being assaulted.

Sukri was finally saved when a policeman came to intervene the situation.

Netizens were enraged and criticised the group of men who took laws into their own hands. Some also sympathised Sukri for being beaten up for no reason.

However, in a report by NST, the driver had allegedly stopped by the roadside, pulled down his trousers and flashed his privates at her the day before. He apparently even grabbed the Vietnamese lady’s hand to touch it.

The lady also revealed that it was her husband who brought a group of friends to attack the driver.

“He sustained serious injuries and is currently warded at the Penang Hospital,” said Northeast District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Anuar Omar in a statement.

The 10 men involved are now being tracked down by the police and the case is being investigated under Section 354 of the Penal Code for assault or use of criminal force to a person with intent to outrage modesty.

Now that both sides of the story have been revealed, let’s hope the truth prevails!
