Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri yesterday announced that five airlines are offering e-vouchers valued between RM25 and RM100 to purchase domestic flight tickets online in our country. The e-vouchers can be redeemed by 45,879 Malaysians until the end of 2022.

As reported by national news agency Bernama, the e-vouchers are under the ministry’s Tourism Recovery Plan (PRE 2.0) for the airport transport cluster. The Tourism Ministry has allocated RM2.7 million for the vouchers and are now available for redemption through five airlines.

Here’s the list of airlines, the voucher amount and number of vouchers allocated:

  • Malaysia Airlines (RM100 vouchers for 10,000 travellers)
  • AirAsia (RM50 vouchers for 23,879 travellers)
  • Batik Air (RM50 vouchers for 4,000 travellers)
  • Firefly (RM50 vouchers for 4,000 travellers)
  • MASwings (RM25 vouchers for 4,000 travellers)

Speaking at the launching event for PRE 2.0 yesterday at Bangi Resort Hotel, Nancy said that the initiative was expected to increase flight ticket sales in our country. She further asserted,

“We want to see how the provision of such e-vouchers can stimulate the local economy, apart from being a benchmark for us to identify ways to help the people. We help industry players and the people so that they can get lower fares,”

PRE 2.0 is a continuation of PRE 1.0 in which its objective is to distribute incentives to Malaysians in the form of discounts, vouchers and rebates. Furthermore, PRE 2.0 will also provide vouchers and rebates under the land transport cluster, tourism association cluster and special interest tourism cluster.

As of 30 June 2022, a total of 15,467 Malaysians had used the rebates and discounts provided to purchase land transport tickets and 12,540 Malaysians have benefitted from the initiative through the purchase of domestic tour packages.

So, what do you guys think of this initiative by the Malaysian government? Share your thoughts with us in the comments!
