The Member of Parliament (MP) for Muar, Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman has urged the federal government to provide subsidies for flight tickets to Sabah and Sarawak during the Hari Raya Aidilfitri festive period.

Taking to his official social media accounts to post a short video, Syed Saddiq said that the 4-day free toll period at 33 highways in Peninsula Malaysia announced by the government doesn’t benefit East Malaysians much.

He added that Sabahans and Sarawakians should also enjoy the RM93 million worth of subsidies that the government spent on the free tolls.

Hence, the Muar MP urges the government to be fair and equitable by being transparent in reporting the latest data on flight capacity and the cost needed to also subsidise flights for Sabahans and Sarawakians.

Syed Saddiq then called for the government to realise a credit fund suggestion for East Malaysians to help them to be with their families during the festive period.

The Muar MP asserted,

“They are always the ones suffering during the festive season. I hope the government can provide incentives for a short-term solution for our friends in Sabah and Sarawak.”

“We need to continue to work to find a long-term solution to resolve this issue once and for all. To friends from Sabah and Sarawak, we are with you.”

Flight 2

Earlier in the video, Syed Saddiq said that ticket prices from Peninsula Malaysia to Sabah and Sarawak skyrocket during the festive period, being the same price as a flight to Australia from Kuala Lumpur.
