Words hurt, and sometimes repercussions will follow regardless of how much you try to retract what you have uttered.

Recently, a duo went viral for insulting the profession of food delivery riders by claiming the job had no future. Of course, what they said sparked fury among the netizens, especially during a tough time where a lot of people have lost their jobs.

Following days after the incident, both parties broke their silence and publicly apologized in two separate press conferences.

The woman, known as Maggie, who is also the founder of the Mingjia group had apologized and bowed several times after announcing that she had resigned from her corporate positions, as well as the group that she founded herself.

According to Sin Chew, she will also be leaving from social media for the time being.

“I have never looked down on any career but wrong demonstrations from me had led to a bad consequence,” she added.

On the other hand, the other man who was seen showing off his luxury watch with Maggie during the live video session, Paul Lim had also expressed his apology this evening (12 November). During the beginning of the press conference, the real estate agent can be seen and heard sobbing.

“Every career deserves to be respected, and I deeply understand this truth,” he assured the people.

He also revealed his intention to personally experience the duty of a food delivery rider to understand their efforts and hardships. According to China Press, he will start his “new job” sometime around next week. As of now, his company has temporarily suspended all of his positions.

The riders’ benefits

According to Grab, GrabBenefits was introduced back in 2017, aiming to reduce the operational costs of their Partners. Aside from SOCSO, EPF and ZAKAT contributions, GrabBenefits also ease their partners in terms of fuel, vehicle maintenance, telco savings and even a free cup of coffee at Grab Driver Pit Stop to reduce their operational costs.
