Graduation ceremonies are usually a joyous occasion where people you love would come together and celebrate a great milestone that has been achieved. It also serves as a reminder that plenty of sacrifices have been made in order to reach this milestone in life.

Just recently, a Thai woman, Ying Chanita has shared a video onto her TikTok where she put her graduation robe onto her brother. The video then went viral as she was seen kneeling on the ground and bowing to her brother before his feet.

In Thai culture, this action is referred to as ‘krap thao‘ and it’s often done to show deep respect for someone. When she kneeled on the ground and bowed, her brother was slightly taken by surprise and gently touched her head.

According to Sanook, it appears that Chanita feels extremely grateful towards her brother as he quit school to ensure that she was able to further her studies. She mentioned that her mom is a rubber tapper and does not have a high income, resulting into her brother deciding to quit school to help with family expenses.

“I didn’t understand why my brother did that when I was young but as I got older my mother explained to me that she wasn’t able to afford both of our school fees and my brother has decided to quit school and work in hopes of helping my mother lighten her burden”, she said.

Chanita revealed that her graduation was initially supposed to be in 2018 but due to the pandemic restriction and outburst, it had to be postponed. She graduated from the faculty of public administration at Rajabhat University in the southern Thai province of Nakhon Sri Thammarat.
