A Malaysian man is “launching” a boycott campaign, and he’s targeting the English language.

Yes, he’s boycotting the English language—not a product, not an organisation—and he’s inviting everyone to join him. In a viral Facebook post in the group Rakan Pesara Tentera, the unnamed man urged everyone to keep their families away from the English language.

“Tell your kids to not learn the English language!”

The English language is NOT the only subject that the man is planning to boycott. In another post, he also expressed his resentment towards subjects like Mathematics and Science. Similarly, he’s hoping to see the children lose interest in these subjects.

“Maths & science are subjects that don’t bring any benefits! Educate your kids about it, make sure they’re not interested in the subjects.”

“Don’t we look stupid if we can’t understand it?”

Social media users were not happy to see how the man disregarded the importance of the English language and other mentioned subjects. Many took the opportunity to highlight the benefits of learning a second language.

“Don’t we look stupid if we can’t understand English, and our jaw drops when we can’t comprehend what others are saying to us? It was fine in the past, but today, we must learn.”

One user commented, “I thank my late father for educating me in English until I could communicate with the armies from other countries. It’s a 2-way communication when we were training and briefing together.”

“I would love it if the government re-implemented English usage in the school syllabus, just like in the 70s. I don’t know what their motive is to stop that.”

“My kids speak fluent English, and from there, they met a lot of businessmen and friends of all races. If you want your kids to be narrow-minded, be my guest,” commented another.

Two-way communication is undeniably important, especially since English is the lingua franca. What do you think of the man’s decision to boycott the mentioned subjects?
