A 28-year-old teacher was recently remanded after allegedly hitting two five-year-old girls with a cane during a netball training session at a childcare centre in Kuala Muda, near Sungai Petani.
The incident reportedly happened last Thursday, and the teacher has now been remanded for three days following a court decision. She’ll remain in custody until June 24.
According to Kuala Muda District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Hanyan Ramlan, the case is being investigated under Section 324 of the Penal Code, which deals with causing harm using a weapon or dangerous object.
The teacher was arrested at 10 am yesterday after the children’s families filed a police report. The parents had noticed bruises and cane marks on the girls’ arms and legs after they complained of pain.
The girls were taken to a clinic and later referred to Sultan Abdul Halim Hospital for further checks.
“The incident allegedly occurred during netball training at the childcare centre when the two girls were accused of not participating earnestly.”
The training session was apparently part of preparations for an upcoming district-level netball tournament.
