‘HUAWEI Rewrites the Rules of Photography’ contest participation is very simple. All you have to do to join is:

1. Capture a picture that best showcases your creativity with any Huawei smartphones. Ensure that the watermark option is enabled.
2. Come up with a caption that describes your picture.
3. Upload the picture onto your social media platforms with selected hashtags.

With these photos, participants can also submit all entries into the NEXT Image Awards to win a cash prize of USD20,000 and other fantastic prizes.

All photos can be submitted into any one or all of the six available categories which we will discuss in detail below.

This category focuses on the experimentation of identity and the power of portraiture. Seeing how Huawei phones’ portraiture and the creation of bokeh through amazing its amazing image processing is second to none, taking a great snapshot under this category shouldn’t be a problem!

2. Going the Distance

The “Going the Distance” category is about discovering new places and new experiences by using new features of the smartphone camera, for instance, telelens, super wide angle or macro-shooting. Going on a road trip with your friends? Just snap a photo of the picturesque scene on the way and the photo will be eligible for this category!

3. Hello, Life

There is bound to be something extraordinary in the ordinary and this category wants you to highlight just that. Snap a photo of people waiting for the KTM or even queuing up for their favourite boba drink, as long as the photo is sharing the emotion or the inspiration in everyday experiences, you’re good to go!

4. Storyboard

This category is all about telling a story but with a certain framing device in mind; 9 frames to be exact! Take multiple snapshots and make a grid of photos that develop a meaningful or intriguing narrative out of it. Any scene or subject will do, just let your creativity fly!

5. #Emotion Tag

A photo could contain a million emotions behind it and this category is all about expressing them. Snap something that expresses instant emotions by means of photography and share them with the world by submitting under the #Emotion Tag category.

6. Life Now

All about filming stories in less than 30 seconds, this category challenges you to provide a noteworthy narrative within a short span of time. Whether it be filming a crowded Bukit Bintang area or a hawker setting up shop, as long as the video is under 30 seconds, you’re all clear to enter!
