A video has since been making the rounds online, showing several people climbing over a gate that was reportedly still locked at the Anak Bukit KTM station earlier today (25 September).
According to the post, the Threads user claimed that the gate was still locked even though it was already around 6:30 AM at the time.
KTMB apologises after staff assigned to open station unable to report for duty
In response, Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) has addressed the incident, explaining that the staff member assigned to open the station was unable to report for duty.
Initial investigations found that the station was scheduled to open at 5:30 AM, but the staff member was unable to report for duty at the scheduled time due to health reasons.
“After being informed at around 5:55 AM that the station entrance was still closed, the officer on duty attempted to contact the staff member but was unsuccessful. Immediate action was then taken to ask a counter clerk from a nearby station, who was scheduled to start work at 7:00 AM, to report to Anak Bukit Station earlier.
“The staff member arrived at around 6:30am, after which the station’s main entrance was opened,” the statement read.
A total of 25 passengers affected by the incident
Initial checks also found that around 25 passengers were affected and were unable to board two KTM Komuter services, which were scheduled to depart from Anak Bukit Station at 5:58 AM and 6:18 AM, respectively.
KTMB added that appropriate action will be taken in accordance with the established procedures.
“KTMB apologises to all affected passengers for the inconvenience caused. KTMB takes the incident seriously, as access to the station should be available according to the stipulated operating hours, particularly to ensure smooth journeys for passengers using the early morning services,” the statement concluded.
