Due to this MCO, everyone is not allowed to go out without any solid reasons. This has affected the lives of 2,500 animals in the Seberang Prai SPCA (Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals).

According to The Star, the Chairman of that SPCA, Mr. Tan Kah Chuah has said that ever since the MCO started, adoptions of animals and donations have stopped. Be is as it may, the costs to run their facility cannot be on a standstill as they still need to take care of 2,500 animals. Their monthly expenses amount to RM40,000.

“We look after 2,000 dogs and 500 cats and have to pay the salaries of four workers who live at the premises.

We rely mainly on public donations and fundraising events to meet our expenses.”

She mentioned that since last month, people have stopped coming to the shelter to adopt animals and donate food. Adoption helps to run the society as adopters usually donate a small amount. So they are now using the RM160,000 funds that they have raised during a dinner half a year ago (September 2019).

“With food supply and funds running low now, we hope kind donors can come forward to contribute.

After 15 years in operation, we might close down if the situation does not improve.”

This SPCA was founded in 2005 and it is a no-kill shelter NGO. Most of the animals here were rescued from being put down. Some of them were victims of abuse and neglect while others were abandoned by their owners.
