After a considerable period of inactivity, businesses have finally been allowed to operate under the new Recovery MCO. But while many of them are busy trying to chase for lost revenue, charity organisations that rely on public donations are hit harder than ever before with the current economic slump.

Since reopening, SPCA (Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) Melaka has been struggling to keep the lights on and their animals fed after donations dwindled during the MCO period.

According to the chairman of the Melaka outpost, they haven’t received any public donations since the beginning of the MCO on 18th March, likely due to the restricted movement and inconvenience that members of the public may face in order to leave their homes. Since then, they have been scraping at their savings to keep operations running and the animals fed, according to Oriental Daily.

As a result, the association has now applied for an eWallet account, where members of the public may contribute however much they wish to help them continue their efforts in saving stray and abandoned animals off the streets.

In addition to that, SPCA Melaka will also be waiving the usual RM120 adoption fee for all animals adopted from their shelter in a bid to encourage more people to consider adoption as an option for owning pets. But they will continue to enforce strict interviews and house visits to ensure that the animals are going to good homes.

So if you would like to lend them a hand, a small donation really can go a very long way! You may also find more information through SPCA Melaka’s Facebook group
