Food hygiene is no joke. Something trivial you miss has the potential to cause harm and food operators, among all should be well aware of that.

Unfortunately, a sandwich that had allegedly expired cost the life of an innocent consumer. In a viral Facebook post, a Malaysian woman said her aunty died after eating sandwiches that were bought from an R&R in Terengganu. The expired sandwich did not only harm her aunty but also her nephew.

Unfortunately, her aunty suffered major consequences after eating the expired sandwich.

“She threw up and had diarheoa multiple times due to food poisoning.”

Her aunt was rushed to the ICU but unfortunately, she couldn’t make it and passed away on December 18. According to her post in the Facebook group Pengguna LPT(Lebuhraya Pantai Timur), the hospital has reported the matter to the Ministry of Health. At the time of writing (December 23), MoH has yet to respond on the matter.

The woman also clarified that she wanted to spread awareness about food hygiene through her post.

“This is also a reminder to all food operators out there. Please be responsible. Serve edible food and don’t sell the leftovers!”

One tiny mistake and the consequences can put others in grave danger. To all the food vendors out there, we truly hope that you will carry your due diligence by at least making sure the food is safe to eat before serving it.
