It was recently revealed by Tunku Mahkota Johor Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim that 396 teachers in Johor had refused to receive the Covid-19 vaccine because they were sceptical about the vaccine.

Now the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah has announced that any religious teachers in the state who refuse to get vaccinated would face the possibility of being relieved of their duties.

In a statement uploaded on the Selangor Royal Office Facebook page yesterday, the Sultan added that this warning applies to Al-Quran and Fardu Ain class (Kafa) teachers as well as mosque officials and marriage officials.

The Sultan said that 326 Kafa teachers had yet to receive their vaccinations whilst 95 teachers have refused to be vaccinated.

Additionally, 59 mosque officials have yet to be vaccinated and 11 others have refused. Meanwhile, nine marriage officials have yet to be vaccinated with six others rejecting vaccinations.

“I am very disappointed with those who have chosen not to be vaccinated, as they will endanger themselves and the public. They should realise that if someone is infected with the Covid-19 virus, vaccination will help them to avoid more severe complications.”

He expressed his concerns over unvaccinated Kafa teachers which would result in detrimental effects on their students.

“I hope the Selangor Health Department can expedite vaccinations for Kafa teachers, mosque officials and marriage officials in Selangor,” he added.

The sultan also mentioned that there were 268 national primary school teachers and 182 national secondary school teachers in Selangor who had refused to be vaccinated.

“This also will endanger primary school and secondary school students in Selangor and this matter must be addressed by those responsible.”

He also urged the public to not doubt or hesitate about being vaccinated and said that the vaccination issue had been raised repeatedly during Friday sermons and statements issued by him

We strongly hope that these teachers and religious officials will change their minds and get themselves protected with the vaccine.
