In this age of technology, most things can now be automated or digitalised. It makes our lives easier because there is a lesser need for us to do things manually, such as keying in information into a database.

One school teacher from SMK Seri Alam 2 in Johor has taken advantage of this convenience by initiating the use of a QR code attendance recording app, ‘Datang.my’ to keep track of his students’ classroom attendance.

Screen

In a series of videos shared on his personal TikTok account, Cikgu Al Hafiz documented how he mounted a card scanner on the wall of a classroom and how his students use it to mark their attendance.

The four videos he posted on the matter showing the scanner being positioned either below or in front of a screen showing the details of the class  has accumulated 4.6 million views!

Netizens loved the idea!

Amongst the hundreds of comments on the 4 videos, most netizens seem to love the idea of tracking attendance digitally!

They were amazed at how easy the whole process was, whilst some reminisced on their own schooling days. Some users are hoping that the system will be implemented into their schools soon.

Hopes

“Dear school, please use this attendance app. I as a student will feel more enthusiastic to go to school because I get to feel like I’m attending university,” said a netizen.

Hopes 2

One netizen said, “That’s amazing. We used to take attendance every morning by calling out names.”

Amazed

Meanwhile, others shared their own experiences with using a digital attendance tracking system.

One netizen highlighted that SMJK Chong Hwa has been using the system for a long time and that there are many benefits to it.

The advantages included the fact that students can use their cards to get student pricing, how it saves teachers’ time taking attendance in class and how it just looks cool.

“My child’s school also uses this system. Everyone has a barcode to scan. It’s a school in Putrajaya.”

A user commented, “My school has also been using this system since way back. When I was in Form 1, I used to always mess with the scanner just for fun.”
