The continuous presence of individuals and businesses offering tent rentals at Teluk Kemang Beach at Port Dickson, Negeri Sembilan, received near-universal criticism on social media recently, with many Malaysians calling them an eye-sore and ruining the beach-going experience.

In a viral video by @update11111 on X (formerly Twitter) with over 361,000 views, the beach can be seen being full of blue tents, with the account sarcastically calling the beach “Teluk Khemah” or Tent Bay.

One of the replies caught the attention of Malaysians after he revealed his less-than-pleasant encounter with one of these rental tent operators, who reprimanded his family for setting up a picnic mat at the beach.

The man, @drl_amn, shared a photo of his family enjoying a day at Teluk Kemang Beach by setting up the aforementioned picnic mat, with dozens of blue tents visible in the background.

He elaborated that a man, who was one of the rental tent operators, approached his family to reprimand them for setting up the picnic mat at the beach.

However, @drl_amn and his family stood firm and ignored the man’s reprimand, which prompted the rental tent operator to badmouth the family in front of them.

Still, the family ignored the man’s actions and continued their day out at the beach.

@drl_amn shared,

“My family and I put picnic met in front of their tents. A brother who was in charge of the tent told us we couldn’t put our mat there.

“We ignored him. He badmouthed us, but we ignored him. He can’t do anything anyway.”

Malaysians gave their 2 cents on the incident

In the replies, many Malaysians criticised the rental tent operator’s actions as Teluk Kemang is a public beach.

One commenter urged the family to report to the local authority as the beach is not a business premise.
