Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs), Datuk Dr Mohd Na’im Mokhtar, has called for the authorities, including the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), to immediately investigate and take appropriate action against an upcoming programme that he believes promotes LGBTQ culture.

According to a report by Sinar Harian, he stressed that any effort to normalise deviant lifestyles is contrary to the principles of the Federal Constitution, existing laws and official government policies, in a country that places Islam as the religion of the Federation and upholds the noble values of Eastern culture.

“I take seriously the report regarding the organisation of a programme themed Pride Care: Queer Stories & Sexual Health Awareness, which is allegedly intended to celebrate Pride Month, as seen going viral on social media platforms,”

“I would like to emphasise that the Malaysian government rejects any form of subtle or overt naturalisation of LGBTQ culture. The actions of organising such a programme, although private in nature, clearly challenge societal norms and religious values espoused by the majority of Malaysians,” he said.

He urges the organisers to stop the event

Mohd Na’im also called for the organisers to stop any activities that contradict national laws and the moral values of society.

Should the event still proceed, he wants all religious agencies, including the Malaysian Islamic Development Department (JAKIM) and the State Islamic Religious Department, to be prepared to play an enforcement role, especially if it involves the participation of Muslims.

“At the same time, I call on all parties to jointly defend the social and moral structure of society from any elements that can damage the faith, morals and harmony of the country,”

“The Madani government will continue to uphold the principles of Magasid Syariah in the governance of the country in order to preserve religion, morals and the dignity of the people. Perverse culture will never become a norm in Malaysia,” he added.
