These two cops just took the meaning of ‘ironic’ to a whole different level.

On July 4, two cops who were the recipients of the Integrity Award were detained by the Malaysian Anti-corruption Commission (MACC) for asking for bribery.

According to Kwong Wah, the two police corporals aged 34 and 37, were awarded with the Integrity certificates last year after turning down two loan sharks who attempted to bribe them. They refused to accept the bribery amounting to RM1,290 and displayed a high level of integrity. The police chief was deeply impressed as they upheld the reputation of the Royal Malaysia Police.

However, the two corporals later did the unthinkable by going back to the same two loan sharks and asked for a hefty bribe. This time, the amount sky-rocketed to RM10,000Well played officer, well played.

You scratch my back, I scratch yours.

The loan sharks were told that if they pay up the amount, no legal action will be taken against them for their previous crimes, which were being loan sharks and offering bribe. The loan sharks must be very confused by now.

Unfortunately, the cops were busted by MACC in Sungai Petani, Kedah and were subsequently brought to the court for remand. They’ll be remanded for four days to facilitate the investigation.

After this news came to light, netizens were amused as it was incredibly ironic for two exemplary policemen to be caught asking for bribe.

“I bet the police chief must be face-palming so hard when he learnt the news,” a netizen said.

“…and they had the audacity to hold the certificates and pose in front of the camera,” another netizen commented.

This case is really an eye-opener for us, but let’s not start generalising all cops to be corrupted. I’m sure there are still some good ones out there, right guys?
