Perikatan Nasional (PN) has announced a plan to set up a special committee to oppose the potential inclusion of Bak Kut Teh in the list of Malaysian heritage dishes.

Revealed by the Member of Parliament (MP) for Langkawi Datuk Mohd Suhaimi Abdullah yesterday (17 June), the committee is meant to prepare for any follow-up actions should the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture move to make Bak Kut Teh a Malaysian heritage dish.

Mohd Suhaimi, who holds the Tourism, Arts and Culture portfolio in PN’s shadow Cabinet also urges Malaysians to lend their support and voice in making sure that Bak Kut Teh would never be considered our country’s heritage dish.

He asserted,

“I will call for this committee to vehemently oppose Bak Kut Teh’s inclusion as a heritage dish. I also call upon all of you to support our action and make sure the dish would not be listed as a heritage dish in Malaysia,”
