As it always does, Dewan Rakyat burst into chaos yesterday (February 27) after the opposition party staged a walk out over Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s additional slot to thank the former and current Yang di-Pertuan Agong (YDPA).

This didn’t sit well with the people.

Multiple politicians including the Minister of Housing and Local Government Nga Kor Ming, Sungai Petani MP Taufiq Johari and more took to their Twitter pages to showcase and condemn the walk out.

Nga Kor Ming wrote, “It is very regrettable that the PN (Perikatan Nasional) opposition members of parliament have shown a very irresponsible attitude by leaving the hall when YAB PM Anwar Ibrahim presented a proposal to express appreciation and gratitude to His Majesty the King.”

“Opposition MPs left to empty the chamber, arguing and DISAGREEING with the Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim would like to express gratitude for the 17th YDPA and a thank you for the 16th YDPA. This is not a matter of politics, this is a matter of our manners towards our beloved His Majesty Tuanku,” Taufiq Johari added.

And the people agreed.

“The opposition is so rude!”

Pn 2

“The Head of the Council wants to congratulate the Agong and they even want to dispute that. PN is really rude.”

Pn 1

“Very disappointing. PN is really insulting Parliament and embarrassing our country.”

The opposition later clarified why they chose to walk out, stating that it was because they disagreed with Speaker, Tan Sri Johari Abdul’s decision to allow the PM to express his thanks and pledge his allegiance to the YDPA, adding that the government shouldn’t do anything outside of the rules of the meeting as it is seen as a misuse of power.

“That’s why we (the opposition) didn’t agree (pass the motion) because the people out there think that the opposition just allows whatever the government does.”

“Today, we want to prove that everything they (the government) do that do not follow the rules, we will oppose. We will ensure that everything the government does is in accordance with existing legislation and regulations,” shared Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin, Leader of the Opposition.
