Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has lauded the robust growth anticipated from 2 high-impact projects in Johor, iterating that the state will become the most economically developed state in Malaysia in the next 1 to 2 years.

Anwar was quoted by The Straits Times as saying that the 2 initiatives, the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ) and the Special Financial Zone (SFZ) in Forest City will help speed up Johor’s economic growth after attending the Madani Aidilfitri 2024 celebration at Angsana Mall in Johor Bahru on Thursday (18 April).

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the JS-SEZ) was signed back in January, which reaffirmed Malaysia’s and Singapore’s joint commitment to strengthen economic cooperation as they agreed to move towards a full-fledged agreement.

Accordingly, the Prime Minister emphasised the need to ensure the people’s welfare is safeguarded as Johor moves towards developing its economy.

Anwar further revealed he had met with Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi where the Prime Minister was informed that there are less than 2,000 people in the hardcore poor category in Johor.

Anwar is confident that they can solve this in a short amount of time and put a full stop to the hardcore poor category.

Besides that, the Prime Minister stressed that while JS-SEZ and SFZ are good indicators of the state seeing major economic development, the state must also prioritise solving major flood issues in parts of the state.

Anwar thus hoped for those involved in government projects to make sure that everything ran smoothly to ease the people’s burdens.
